The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl
(JUI-F) are preparing to launch an anti-Musharraf campaign
without the participation of other components of the Muttahida
Majlis-e-Amal, fearing they will not support them, MMA
                        sources told The Fact.
Sources said that the absence of four
MMA leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami’s annual congregation
worried JI and JUI-F leaders so “they have started
chalking out their own strategy”. Sources said the
JI had not expected that the leaders of other MMA parties
would not participate in the congregation. They said that
rift in the MMA parties had become vivid after the JI
congregation. Maulana Samiul Haq, Senator Sajid Mir, Allama
Sajid Naqvi and Shah Faridul Haq did not participate in
the convention although the JI had invited them. The four
leaders are not likely to participate in the JI’s
anti-Musharraf campaign, sources said. “The MMA
has crumbled. A formal announcement of the split is expected
                        later,” they added.
The JI will spend Rs 5
million on its anti-Musharraf campaign beginning after
Ramzaan, sources said. They said the money had been collected
in JI’s congregation held on October 1 to 3 at Azakhel
Park, Nowshehra. JI Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad appealed
to the participants on the last day of the congregation
to help the JI collect funds to spend on the drive.
